SCOPE OF PLANNING

I want write this after my daughter send me a poem via sms on mother's day, 22 nd December 2008. She got it from her friend.
Planning should consider children, women, old people, disable people. We all live in the same place, world, city, neighborhood. Did we make a public service accessible, easy, convenience for them. Did we make a plan to prevent a crime happen to them?

Planning process should aware their existency and needs, combine with the environment, social and cultural awareness.

PLANNING FOR YOUNG GENERATION

(Who are they? Where they come from?Why they go on street?

see on:spatial planning of your city, annual plan and budgeting, midterm planning and long term planning of your local government and central government. Probably, it is not enough. That's why, we can see the young generation go on street, that sometimes we called "Gepeng = gelandangan dan pengemis" ( homeless and begger).

SREET VENDOR : WHO CARE OUR LUNCH?

(From Bandung with Love: The day when I visited my daughter at her schooll, ITB)

As a mother, I worried on my daugther healthy when she was far (Jakarta - Bandung) from me. How did she get lunch at school? Is it hygienic conditions and good for her body?

I saw several street vendors surround ITB (Institute Technology Bandung) and of course it was different condition with street vendor at Philadelphia - University of Pennsylvania, my school at Master Degree. Every street vendor connected with electric supply.

The next day, I knew that there were several kantin (small restaurant) inside ITB. The conditions are better, but the food price are higher than at street vendor. How many students got lunch there, and how many students took at street vendor - are among my questions?. The food price at kantin ITB is around 7000 rupiah to 20000 rupiah (1 dollar = 9500 rupiah). While at street vendor is around 3000 rupiah to 6000 rupiah. Then, the next question .....

As a challenge to know:

1. Price sensitivity of student?

2.How many student got diarrhea or stomach ache after got lunch at street vendor and after got lunch at kantin?

3. How many pharmacy around university and student home?

4. What kind the most medicine buy by student?

5. How much money to buy a medicine a month?

6. How to link between local/people economic development, spatial planning, environment and sanitation?

This is a challenge for planner, businessman, and local government. A challenge to implement a good planning, comprehensively. (ITB have Planning School, Architect, School Bussiness Management, Pharmacy, Biology, Environmental School, and Electrical School)

Is this a trade off- transfer cost from bad sanitation to healthy body?
